Immediate Denture Placement
Congratulations on your new dentures! Proper care and adherence to post-operative instructions are crucial for a smooth healing process and successful denture placement.
Follow these guidelines to ensure optimal comfort and healing:
Rest and Recovery
- Rest for the first few hours after denture placement to allow your mouth to adjust.
- Avoid excessive talking, eating, and other activities that could stress your mouth.
- Do not remove your dentures on the day of surgery.
Swelling and Discomfort
- Some swelling, discomfort, or soreness is normal after denture placement. This should subside gradually over the next few days.
- Over-the-counter pain relievers, as recommended by your dentist, can help manage pain. Follow the recommended dosage.
Oral Hygiene
- Keep your mouth clean to prevent infection and promote healing.
- Gently rinse your mouth with warm saltwater several times a day, especially after meals.
- Brush your remaining natural teeth, tongue, and palate carefully using a soft-bristle toothbrush. Avoid touching the surgical site.
Eating and Drinking
- Start with soft foods and gradually progress to a normal diet as you feel comfortable.
- Cut your food into smaller pieces and chew on both sides of your mouth to distribute pressure evenly.
- Avoid sticky or hard foods that could dislodge the dentures or cause irritation.
Denture Care
- Keep your dentures clean by removing them and rinsing them after each meal. Handle them with care to avoid dropping and damaging them.
- Brush your dentures daily using a soft-bristle denture brush and mild soap or denture cleaner. Rinse thoroughly before wearing them again.
Saliva and Speech
Excessive saliva production and changes in speech are common during the initial adjustment period. With time, your muscles and oral tissues will adapt, and your speech will improve.

Avoid Irritants
